Ali Thompson, A former Arkansas Razorback basketball player is facing charges in connection with a felony charge of aggravated assault on a family or household member.
Prosecuting Attorney Brent Davis of Jonesboro says that he will seek the appointment of a special prosecutor in the June 22 shooting death of 12-year-old DeAuntae Farrow of West Memphis once he receives the investigative file. Black ministers in West Memphis are calling for a boycott of all local businesses today in support of the 12 year-old child who was shot by a local policeman.
Federal regulators rejected an Entergy bid to change how power plants are viewed in its “system agreement” that serves parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. FERC noted such a move would have left states like Arkansas more vulnerable to cost-shifting maneuvers by regulators in other states. Arkansas ratepayers will pay $230.7 annually through 2013 - to “roughly” balance production costs at Entergy plants in neighboring states.
The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts in Hot Springs is considering an expansion into Little Rock in the form of a charter school for seventh-through-12th grades. The school is one of 19 open-enrollment charter schools proposed for the 2008-09 school year to the Arkansas Department of Education. Six schools would be in in Little Rock and one in North Little Rock.
Gov. Mike Beebe promises to seek additional enforcement of size and weight restrictions on truck traffic in areas where companies are exploring the Fayetteville shale play. Beebe also says the companies need to pay their fair share of the cost to repair road damage caused by their vehicles.

G4S Youth Services has a year-long contract with a $10.7 million price tag to run the Alexander Juvenile Correctional Facility for Arkansas. The Virginia-based firm, which has been running the state’s largest youth lockup since January, did not have to go through the formal bidding process.
Attorneys for the Joshua intervenors in the Little Rock School District desegregation lawsuit asked a federal appeals court for 15 more days to either get the matter resolved or to file their legal arguments opposing a lower court’s order that declared the district desegregated. The motion for an extension was the second made by John Walker, an attorney for the intervenors, who represent the class of all black students in Pulaski County in the 24-year-old desegregation case.
One person was missing and seven more were injured after two boats collided late Saturday on Bull Shoals Lake. Keith Akridge, a St Louis area man, was driving a ski boat with five passengers aboard, including several family members, when the vessel collided with a bass boat carrying a father-son fishing team from Mammoth Spring competing in a nighttime tournament.
A man whose body was found late Saturday in the driveway of a home in a rural area north of Russellville was the victim of a homicide, Pope County Sheriff Jay Winters says. The manner of Chad Ray Ferguson’s death was not disclosed.
A Chicot County man is accused of beating his wife to death after a July Fourth gathering at a deer camp near Boydell. Prosecutors filed a capital murder charge against Justin Dailey Carpenter who lives east of Portland. He could face the death penalty in the slaying of Jennifer Carpenter.
Little Rock police officers opened fire Saturday morning on a stolen Chevrolet Suburban, hitting the driver as he tried to run them over in the parking lot of a Roosevelt Road gas station, authorities said. The injured driver then fled in the bullet-riddled sport utility vehicle, leading police on a chase down Wright Avenue until the SUV slammed into a pickup at Main and 17th streets.
A Pine Bluff infant is in critical condition at a Little Rock hospital and police have begun an investigation into what were described as suspicious injuries. Medical personnel reported no pulse or blood pressure, and injuries including a black eye, bruising around both eyes, bite marks on the side of the face and upper right arm with additional scratching and bruising, a red mark on the back of the head and a depressed scull fracture.
The Conway Police Department says that a male suspect in last week's homicide has been in custody in connection with a separate incident for more than a week, but officials would not release the name of the person presumably connected to the killing of Cynthia Farmer.
Portia Barker and her son Ronnie Barker are expected to be formally charged with first-degree capitol murder today after a Saturday domestic dispute which ended in the death of Glen Dale Barker, who is the husband and father.
A Springdale man who admitted he caused an accident last summer that killed his wife and unborn child was sentenced to three years in prison. Brenton Wayne Linn, pleaded guilty to two counts of negligent homicide. He will also serve a three-year suspended sentence and six years of probation. Linn's criminal troubles are not over, however, since he was arrested in June while free on a $30,000 bond. Springdale police said he caused an accident critically injuring a 12-year-old child, then ran away. He is set to be arraigned July 20.
Larry Lash, who sponsored upgrades to a Russellville Police Department cruiser last year, is now charged with residential burglary, raising questions as to the advisability of allowing private citizens to provide financial payment in exchange for having their names advertised on the rear bumper of the city’s police vehicles.

I went to high school with Jennifer Carpenter (maiden name Hicks) and this was such a tragedy!! Do you have any other information on the charges or the case? The internet hasn't provided much information but wanted to thank you for at least covering it!!
