Mid-day Monday (sorry I'm late)

Lawmakers learned Friday that John Harris, the director of the Arkansas Board of Architects, resigned earlier this year after state auditors said he received more than $100,000 in unauthorized travel reimbursements and falsified some travel records. His administrative assistant has retired after repaying $9,000 in travel expenses. A further investigation is expected.

Today marks the final day of early voting before the run-off election Tuesday. There are statewide Democratic races for Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General and Treasurer.

Some northeast Arkansas farmers say they suspect dams on the Cache River were installed at an improper height, delaying the flow of water to their fields. The dams installed by a drainage district were supposed to be 3-5 feet high. Instead, some were built up more and are holding as much as 8-10 feet of water, reducing the flow downstream.

Congressman. John Boozman is taking a hard line on illegal immigrants, citing strong beliefs among voters in Northwest Arkansas that the best way to manage immigration is to fortify the country's borders while blocking undocumented workers from becoming U.S. citizens. Boozman backed a bill that calls for building 700 miles of fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, making it a felony to be in the United States illegally, urging local police to assist with catching illegal immigrants and toughening penalties for employers who hire illegal immigrants.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued five citations totaling $63,000 against Crossland Construction following an investigation of a Hispanic worker’s death at a Rogers job site. Safety administration officials said the death likely could have been avoided if the company had followed property safety precautions. The Little Rock office of the federal safety agency undertook a statewide program last year geared toward Hispanics working specifically in residential building.

The driver of a tractor-trailer who caused an accident that left portions of Interstate 40 closed for more than 12 hours Thursday may be charged. Carl Moody of San Antonio approached traffic in the eastbound lanes that was already stopped for an accident, but he did not slow down till it was too late striking two other trucks and causing a chemical spill.

A Garland County sheriff’s deputy accused of exposing herself at a Lake Ouachita campground lost her job after being formally charged with misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. Dawn Rene Roberson of Royal has worked at the sheriff’s office since 1997 and was a sergeant in the detention center.

Saline County officials later this month will consider a smoking ban stricter than a new state law that will go into effect in July. The ordinance, if approved, would ban tobacco use on county property and in county vehicles. Justices of the peace will consider the measure at their June 20 meeting.

The new Guy-Perkins High School is scheduled for completion in August, and the school officials hope to be completely moved in by the first day of school.

(Think Progress) Matalin Defends Coulter’s Attack on 9/11 Widows

Yesterday on Imus, Mary Matlin — a former counselor to Vice President Cheney and an influential strategist for the White House — defended Ann Coulter’s vicious attack on the 9/11 widows. (In a new book, Coulter says the widows are “enjoying their husband’s deaths.”)
Matalin passed on multiple opportunities from Imus to condemn or distance herself from Coulter’s comments. (Instead, Matalin said she agreed with Coulter’s “larger point.”) She also argued the outrage against Coulter was misplaced, saying “She calls somebody a harpy and you’d think that the world was on fire.”

Ann Coulter has turned herself into a skinny, blowhard, female caricture of Rush Limbaugh. Anyone who takes her seriously is seriously impaired. Mary Matalin is less of a crank but is pushing herself in that direction. Evidently, she couldnt pass up aligning herself with all of that publicity. The far right-wing of the Republican Party has taken over the GOP with disastrous results. The Party Faithful are left defending a failed agenda, failed policies, corruption and conniving at all levels. They lash out at any criticism, because the criticism far outweighs any positives( which are nigh unto impossible to find, unless you are wealthy.) Thus, the Mary Matalins are left with a bunker mentality. Like cornered rats, they lash out. As for James Carville, he is a blowhard, too. Not one of my favorite people. He and Matalin are 2 sides of the same coin. Birds of a feather. Carville belongs to a different era. Progressive Democrats dont need retreads. They need intelligent, honest, articulate spokespeople.

One incorrect point in that last comment. Anne is not a her, or a she. She’s a man. Nothing wrong with trannies but she needs to be exposed. Look at her closely. Women aren’t supposed to have adam’s apples right? Google strap-on veterens for truth. There’s some pretty interesting photos there revealing Anne as a male drag queen in Key West. Hey, I’m sold. Sure explains a lot. Think of the uproar she she’s exposed…ha ha

Pat,
Your ode to the physical beauty of Ann Coulter proves you are not only (self-admittedly) severely impaired in the area of personal attractiveness, you're also obviously seriously visually handicapped.
Ann Coulter , a profoundly peroxided 45 year-old anorexic, is so completely shapeless (despite her store-bought boobs) that only her manly adams apple
provides any visual relief to her barren landscape....though her " manliness ' is probably the very quality you find so appealing!

Btw, Lynch concludes his piece by stating, " Liberals have been beaten senseless over the past 30 years, and that may be very much deserved." This statement is proof positive of Lynch's preposterous claims of his sharing liberal values and of his total allegiance to corporate values. It is also charming that Lyncho longs for the optimistic, sunny days of " Howdy Doody " ,a.k.a. Ronald Reagan: of Iran-Contra, clandestined secret wars, arming Saddam , excusing Saddam's gassing of innocents, running up deficits/trade imbalances that foretold the continuing." voo-doo" economics currently hurdling all of us over a cliff and alzheimer's fame! Yeh that Ronald Reagan
