Energy independence more fantasy than reality
Saturday, Feb 4, 2006
By Wesley Brown
This is one of the most important opinion pieces written this weekend, and high time somebody told the flat-out truth about the president's so-called program for energy independence. Some of you may recall the grief Jimmy Carter got when he tried to tell the truth. Americans do not want a sensible energy policy and the President can not possibly be serious about it. Read what Wesley Brown has to say. Good stuff.
Due to the Vice President’s office’s unwillingness to provide information, GAO was unable to learn the identities of the industry representatives and lobbyists.

"Indeed, if the legislation became law in its current form, it would prolong smog problems in much of the nation, shift the burden of cleaning up poisoned water supplies from oil companies to cash-strapped public agencies, and even threaten environmental damage from some forms of renewable energy. These are on top of the well-publicized provisions that would permit big oil companies to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for a few months worth of oil that wouldn't reach consumers for a decade.

"Most of the world now realizes that the main reason for the USA to invade Iraq was to take its oil. What most governments, but few citizens, know, is that the rush to war was due to Saddam Hussein’s committing the high crime of accepting Euro dollars for oil under the “Oil for Food” program."
"The US has been working hard overtly, with its weapons of mass destruction smear campaign, as well as covertly, using its own cadre of terrorists, the M.E.K, to destabilize the Iranian government. The USA lacks the troops to invade and Dick Cheney has asked the Pentagon to draft a plan to use nuclear weapons against Iran."
