PD Investigation Results

The Springdale Police Department is digesting the public release of a report about allegations against a former Chief. There have been all sorts of allegations against Sid Rieff. These include discriminating against National Guard and Reserve members, discriminating against minorities, and being a member of the KKK.

The Morning News Of Northwest Arkansas has posted both the report, which is a product of David Mathews law firm and the now retired Chief's response.

After reading both, I hate to say that I have had a change of heart and come down on the side of Sid Rieff. Although some of his generational attitudes led him to violate department policy, he was also the object of a palace revolt by high ranking officers.

The investigations widespread use of anonymous testimony raises serious civil liberties concerns.

I think a good argument can be made for the investigation of that anonymous email can be made. There are deep troubles among the so-called leaders of the force. There is a new Chief and she will be in serious trouble unless this serious breach of discipline is addressed.

I am wondering how such an investigation was allowed outside an official complaint in accordance with city policy. How will the City of Springdale handle future anonymous complaints? This is why we have circular file cabinets.
