Deer hunting season starts at dawn Saturday so I have set Steve "Wildman" Wilson for a visit on noon Thursday. WAI Radio.com is linked in the left hand column and, if you can not call in, email a question for Steve to pat@wairadio.com.

Blanche Lincoln's weekly press briefing is at 10:30 Thursday morning.

The Senate hearings on the Wright Amendment begin Thursday at 9 CDT and I will have a few highlights - especially if there is testimony from the Chairman of Southwest Airlines, Herb Kelleher.

Comments:
Hey, man, they moved the hearing time up on you by 30 minutes to 8:30 (they decided to let some Congresscritters speak first).

I got a chance to watch some of the hearings, and found the comments by Edie Bernice Johnson to be very interesting. She represents the district that Love Field is in, and she wants to KEEP the Wright Amendment in place. It got me thinking that maybe we shouldn't impose a repeal of Wright on the district if their own Congresswoman is against it.

Rep. E.B. Johnson is a rent-seeking political hack. What she failed to mention is that she has a sweetheart deal on two retail concessions at DFW Airport and it appears that these operations constitute the majority of her income and net worth.

Of course she wants Love Field closed... that just means more business for her at DFW.

It's beyond me how that kind of stuff is legal... she didn't even have to submit a competitive bid to get that deal.

Well, those are pretty major accusations against her, but I think it's really up to the people of the district to choose who best represents them. As long as she is speaking as the representative for that district it makes me question if we should impose a policy on her and her constituents that she doesn't want.

The stuff about Rep. E.B. Johnson is all a matter of public record, the Dallas Observer first uncovered what they referred to as the "smelly" deal several years ago and published an extensive expose.

With respect to constituent desires, polls in North Texas have consistently shown that the overwhelming majority want the Wright Amendment repealed. The most recent poll showed an 82% majority in favor of repeal.
