This is huge. This is bigger than Taylor against Hopkins!

American and Southwest take the gloves off and the roasted peanuts will be flying. The above head takes you to the story in today's Dallas Morning News. The U. S. Senate has scheduled hearings. This will rock.

The fate of Dallas Love Field will have a bearing on transportation in Arkansas. Stay tuned!

Although I do not have a firm opinion on whether the Wright Amendment should be repealed, I do generally believe that what is good for Southwest Airlines is ultimately good for the traveling public. Commnets, anyone? Post 'em here.

Comments:
I think the Wright Amendment is indefensible. It was wrong at inception, and it's wrong now.

Free-market arguments aside (which clearly come down in favor os Southwest), why would we hamstring a successful airline to help a struggling one?

This Senate hearing will be quite interesting. I know Southwest says they don't want the hassle and expense of moving, but it will be interesting to see if they have a less selfish explanation of why they simply refuse to move to DFW. Lot's of studies have shown that having one strong, central airport is best for a cities economy.

The hearing should prove fascinating... I look forward to American Airlines explaining why they thought they deserved a special exemption from the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 and seeing them backed into a corner over their empty threats to us folks here in Arkansas (who they evidently believe are a bunch of dumb hicks).

If American Airlines' management team can't figure out how to run the airline, they need to sell out to someone else instead of going to Uncle Sam for permission to keep on running their monopoly.

American has been running around trying to scare airport folks for months. Most of these guys have seen AA's tactics for what they are, a bunch of bullying backed by empty threats and have told them to get lost.

Unfortunately, they've managed to find one dolt who's gullible enough to swallow AA's B.S. hook, line and sinker... the head of the Texarkana Airport, Steve Luebbert.

Sigh.. how embarrasing.
